Prof. Mia Wouters strengthens our team

GDS Advocaten is glad to announce that Prof. Mia Wouters has joined the practice.

Mia Wouters graduated in law at the University of Leuven, obtained a degree in Maritime and Air Law (Brussels), has a Certificate of Port Sciences at the University of Gent, holds an LLM (Air and Space law) at McGill (Montreal) and was admitted to the McGill doctoral program.

Mia Wouters is a member of the Brussels Bar,  is a Professor of Aviation law at the University of Ghent and the University of Leiden, serves on boards of various aviation related organization,   gave lectures and is a greatly appreciated author on a variety of  air law topics. (

She and her team, which is put together according to the needs of the file in order to obtain the maximum result for the client, solve problems and represent the interest of companies in all aspects of their air transport operations. This involves dealing with day to day contracts to managing the more complicated relations with third parties/countries, security and safety issues or setting up airlines.  Her practice includes wet and dry leasing, buying/selling and repossessing of aircraft. She represents loss adjusters and insurance companies in major accidents and incidents, airlines, airports and works with regulators all over the world. In sum Mia is actively involved in the full range of legal issues arising in the aviation and tourism industry. Her studies, practice, lecturing and involvement in professional associations have provided Mia with a vast  network of experts able to assist all over the globe in various fields of law related to her practice.

Mia so reinforces our finance and transport law practice, especially on the aviation side thereof and our law and treaty making consultancy, so that we can maintain promptness in an increasing demand of services.
